ROBERT BATEMAN ART AND ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION CENTRE
The Bateman Centre was designed as one of the first ‘living buildings’ in North America – aiming to restore, rather than degrade, its environment. Part nature museum, part archive, and part art gallery, the building also includes a research and conference centre. The project includes the restoration of six hectares of wetlands that will provide a major carbon-sink for southern Vancouver Island, as well as spawning areas for wild salmon.
